Crow Tribe at the table for talks on Little Bighorn Monument

The
Crow Tribe of Montana is willing to work with the
National Park Service on plans for a new visitor center and museum at
Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Chairman Cedric Black Eagle said.
The monument sits entirely within reservation boundaries. Tribal members have long-running concerns about land being taken by the federal government but Black Eagle said “we realize there needs to be some movement" on the issue, The Billings Gazette reported.
Discussions center on the use of 240 acres for the new center and museum. The land is currently owned by the Custer Battlefield Preservation Committee
One option could involve transferring the land to the tribe and the tribe could allow NPS to use it in perpetuity.
Black Eagle said the tribe wants a portion of the museum dedicated to Crow artifacts.
